HP Routers/Switches (Comware 5)

Using the Web Interface

The web interface for HP Comware 5 devices provides a simple way to retrieve a configuration files.

  1. Using your preferred web browser, navigate to the address of your device.

  2. Logon using your administration authentication credentials, ensuring to also type in the verification code provided on screen.

  3. Upon successfully logging in, you can use the navigation sidebar, to select Device and then select the Configuration option.

  4. Next, you can simply click the Backup button to retrieve the configuration file.

Using SSH, Telnet or direct console connection:

Configuration files can be retrieved via the Command Line Interface (CLI) of your HP Comware 5 device using an SSH client (such as OpenSSH or Putty), Telnet or the console port. We would recommend using either SSH (for remote connections) or using a direct connection to the console port. Telnet provides no encryption of the communications and therefore your authentication credentials and configuration would be vulnerable if a malicious user were to monitor your connection.

  1. Connect to the HP Comware 5 using your favorite SSH client, Telnet or a direct console connection.

  2. Login using your administration authentication credentials.

  3. Execute the following CLI command and capture the output (possibly using the cut and paste facility):

    Copy
    _cmdline-mode on
  4. You will be then asked to confirm the access. Proceed by executing the following command:
  5. You will then be prompted for the device password.
  6. Save the captured output to a file and if necessary remove any visible page lines (i.e. --More--).
  7. The resulting file should now be auto-detected as a HP Comware device when entered into Nipper.
