How to set your report detail level

Nipper InfraSight lets you control how much detail is included in your generated reports. Whether you need a short list of findings for rapid remediation, or a fully detailed report for in-depth auditing, you can choose the level of detail that best suits your audience. There are three detail levels available: Simple, Standard and Detailed.

Selecting the desired detail level When Creating a Report

  1. To begin, go to File, New Report.
  2. Add one or more devices to the audit using Config File, Config Dir, Remote Device or Remote List methods.
  3. On the 'Select Report(s)' screen, choose the reports you wish to include.
  4. On the 'Report Detail' screen, select the level of detail you would like this report to contain from the dropdown list.
Note: This selection only applies to the report you are currently generating. It does not change your persistent default.
  5. If you select Detailed, the "About Your Report" and "Appendix" sections will automatically be included in your report. These sections are only available when the Detailed level is selected.
  6. On the 'Report Comparison' screen, if you wish to perform a comparison with a previously generated report, select the report here.
  7. Begin the report generation by pressing the Next button.
  8. After a short time generating, your report is then available. The detail level used will be shown on the finish screen.

Understanding the Conent Levels

  • Simple - Optimized for rapid remediation. This level provides only the essential data points: finding identifiers, titles, risk classifications, and specific recommendations.
  • Standard (Default) - Balances actionable insight with technical context. Includes all 'Simple' details supplemented with finding descriptions and supporting evidence.
  • Detailed - Delivers maximum transparency for in-depth auditing. Contains the full narrative report, including comprehensive evidence and exhaustive technical detail.

Changing the Persistent Default

If you would like every new report you create to start with a particular detail level by default, you can set this from Settings -> Reports -> Common -> General -> Report Detail Level.

This persistent setting only determines the level pre-selected when you start the New Report Wizard; you can always choose a different level for an individual report on the 'Report Detail' screen.
